The VELAR UL , this is strictly a hooded, screened bivvy. This is designed to be ultra light for the minimalist.  

Made out of Tyvek 1460C or "spunbonded Olefin" ultra-soft material that blocks 98% of the sun's ultraviolet rays, is tear resistant, water resistant, and breathable. Its high durability to weight ratio makes it the perfect material for the VELAR UL.

Keeping with the popularity of the Trifecta, the VELAR UL has the same ipx5 water resistant zipper with two double pulls. Upgraded specialized thread to help with water proofing. The zipper runs down the side for one meter for easy access. The cinch hood has a built in screen.  Lastly the inside has an aluminum coating to reflect back the radiant heat given off by one's body.

The VELAR UL BIVVY  is designed to be very light weight, portable and to help keep you warmer and dryer.

With the VELAR UL you can use it in the following ways. 

  • Alone as a thermal sleeping bag 
  • As a thermal BIVVY with a light sleeping bag
  • Emergency shelter

The temp rating on the VELAR UL can be subjective and ranging depending if your using it all the way zipped up, in a hammock, your body type etc., I have continually gained 18 degrees Fahrenheit from the outside ambient air temperature, in my test the Trifecta was mostly zipped closed in temperatures ranging from 0f to 50f. For example if it's 45f outside then inside the Trifecta it should be about 63f. I have not fully tested the VELAR UL and these numbers are for reference only. 

Note: The Velar is NOT fully taped. The main seam on the bottom is taped, however the foot box and the seam on the zipper side is not. If this is required I would suggest tenacious tape or a similar product. 

Caution: The Velar tie-outs should be used with shock cords if used. These tie-outs are not reinforced and will rip with about 30lbs of force.  The material it self will rip with about 50lbs of force. Future versions I will reinforce these points to the materials maximum limit.
